βοΈ 10th September β Hello Sri Lanka
Flew via Delhi to Colombo. First impression: highways! What a luxury after Nepal π Checked into an Airbnb, finally cooked again and did laundry π§Ί Jean and I treated ourselves with a pedicure, then bedtime.

π¦ 11th September β Colombo Adventures
Got our Sri Lankan driving permits sorted (international license not enough here β fines of 100 USD otherwise). Explored the city: Slave Island, bazaar, city beach. Evening at Lotus Tower in the rotating restaurant β all you can eat & drink πΊ Totally worth it. When we walked to the Lotus Tower, we got attacked from giants bats. Nothing like the bats from Germany β about three times as big. Iβd say roughly the size of a falcon in Germany.

π 12th September β Train to Bentota
Took the coastal train south β hanging out of the open doors with the wind in my face. Best ride ever. TΓV Germany would die seeing this π Arrived in Bentota, hotel offered a βfree tuk tuk rideββ¦ turned into a scammy walking tour. Sunset, wine, pool swim, chats with the security guard ended the day nicely.

π 13th September β Disappointed Beaches
Everyone says Sri Lanka is paradise. Maybeβ¦ but these waves? Impossible to swim. Beautiful sunsets though π Still, expensive compared to Nepal.

π 14th September β Scooter Trouble in Galle
Lost my laptop charger π© Took the train to Galle, rented a shaky scooter and rode with backpacks. Ate amazing curries β pineapple curry my favorite π. Explored the colonial old town and lighthouse. Then the scooter died on the highway β dozens of locals stopped to help. After 40 min the rental guy came. Got a new scooter, much better (except the crooked handlebar).

βοΈ 15th September β Too Much Sun
Sunburned but tried again to swim β still too dangerous. Bought souvenirs, booked a massage, then discovered Unawatuna beach town. Super cute. Reserved a beachfront room for the next night.

π 16th September β Massage & Relax & Jetski Terror
Moved to the new beach hotel. Neck pain from scooter, but massage helped. Chilled on the beach, ate loads, finally had a sweet roti again (not as good as in Thailand though).
Jean convinced me to try jet skiing. First time, and honestly? Terrifying. Gigantic waves, I almost peed my pants π

π 17th September β Rooftop Apartment
Took the train to Kamburugamuwa, rented a new scooter and explored the place. Later cooked dinner at our apartment, bought chocolate for the ownerβs kids, and fed street dogs. In the evening, partied with some French travelers Jean had met in Thailand. One bad surprise: someone stole our scooter helmet.

β 18th September β Stormy Mirissa
Thunderstorms all day. Tried sightseeing anyway: Coconut Tree Hill, Parrot Island, lighthouse. Saw a flying peacock π¦

π 19th September β Seashell Collection
The beaches here are deadly. No joke β these waves can kill. So instead we went shell hunting. Found the most beautiful ones π Even Jean got into it. But both of us agreed: Sri Lanka isnβt our place. Time to move on. Booked flights to Malaysia. Actually 7 hours before the departure, the drive to the airport was nearly 5 hoursβ¦ Thatβs really last minute π€
